Null References... a billion dollar mistake?  
For those of you who are programmers out there, I think you'll dig this presentation by Tony Hoare (inventor of Quicksort) about why he feels like inventing the null reference was a bad idea:


Remember folks: 0 == False == Null is a terrible assumption to make.

Don't get me started.

For all that I work primarily in C++ and therefore live in a world where null references are possible, I sometimes really want to track Messrs Kernighan and Ritchie down and kick them in the shins.
