I went to Dick Blick yesterday and got an actual decent sketchbook. Only 50c more than the one I got at Target, and 50 sheets instead of 70, but it's actual white, thick, smooth paper. It's a dream to draw on. I'm in love!

Today was the first attempt at drawing a non-portrait:

Clearly demonstrating my lack of understanding of perspective. Stupid arrow. I'm going to keep tinkering with it to try to understand how that kind of perspective works. But, I think I did pretty good on drawing Aang's actual eyes.

This is a case where the... um, face map? technique is basically a necessity. You know, where you draw an oval for the head with a line down the middle, a line across it at eye level and another at the mouth level. It's still a bitch to do at that angle, but it's much easier to get the simple, faint guide lines right than a whole arrow tattoo.

I don't think you even need the arrow. :)

saw this link and thought of you...

I'm going to an event Monday night called "Sketchbook," put on by Visual Arts Minnesota. It's in St. Cloud at the White Horse at 6pm. Basically people bring their sketchbooks, whatever medium they are working in and order food/drinks, sketch/make art and chat. This is the first one they are doing, but plan to do it the 1st Monday of every month.

Thanks for the link. I'm still drawing every day -- just haven't posted much to LJ, since I don't seem to get much in the way of response.

Do you know when the whole White Horse thing ends? It sounds pretty awesome. Given the trek, it might be nice to alternate carpooling, if you'd be up for that?
