My latest project
I've been spending the last week or so working on a neat way to display my game collection while simultaneously filling in my knowledge about jQuery. This is pretty close to the final result:

(faster in Firefox / Safari / Chrome, but it should work fine in IE)

* On-the-fly sortable columns, with zebra-striping
* On-the-fly search field, with recalculated counts at the bottom
* "Lightbox" popup, when you click on links (dismissable with the X button, clicking outside, or hitting escape)
* Main table shows: Title, Platform, Publisher, Developer, Genre, (metacritic) Rating, My Rating, Release date
* Details page shows: Title, Platform, Cover image, Series, Publisher, Developer, Genre, Format, # of Players, Discs, Region code, (ESRB) Rating, and Release date (they'll be hidden if I haven't filled them in). Also has links for additional images, additional info, google search, and an option to buy it on Amazon.com.

I'd love to hear what you folks think! :) :)

Ok, I think I heard you professing your love for jQuery in #sigfs because of this but what are you using to accomplish it? I also love jQuery but have used it mainly for pretty things, not useful data things. What can jQuery NOT do, seriously? I bet it can make me toast!

I'm not sure what you mean by "what are you using to accomplish it"?

I'm using jQuery 1.3.2 as well as a couple jQuery modules, Tablesorter and Colorbox. The search code was hand-written, as was the zebra-striping code and most everything else. :)

You can see my jQuery code here: http://www.twoevils.org/html/mygames/Images/fi.js

And I'm pretty sure I've seen a jquery.toast.js module out there somewhere. ;)

Mainly I was wondering if you were using any additional modules - so, I got my answer. :)

Looks good, although I get < !--IFformatFormat: on some games, such as Disgaea 3.

Should be fixed now - thanks!

Is this JB as in "brother JB" or "soccer JB"?

Brother JB, though how many JBs do you know?
Soylent Meansoylentmean on December 16th, 2009 05:01 pm (UTC)
Just the two - brother JB, and soccer-playing gay friend JB.

This seriously kicks ass. I'm tempted to steal your code and do the same thing with all my games :)
